General universities focus strongly on scientifically oriented study in a wide range of disciplines. Universities of applied science, on the other hand, are very practice-oriented.     • Students normally don't have to pay tuition fees at German universities, and if so, the fees are very low. Most German universities receive considerable financing from the government. Bachelor's degree programmes are usually tuition-free at public universities. Some master's degree programmes, however, come with tuition fees, but they're not as high as in other countries.

    • Compared with other European countries, the cost of living in Germany is reasonable. The cost of food, rent, clothing and cultural activities are equivalent to the EU average. There are also a number of concessions available to students. You can receive reduced prices at theatres, museums, opera houses, cinemas, swimming pools and other institutions. All you have to do is present your student ID.

You can still study in Germany even if you don't know German, but having some knowledge of the language can make everyday life easier and help you make friends faster. Nobody says that German is an easy language, but there are many ways to learn German-in a course, with a tandem partner or with German flatmates.

Education System

German Universities offer courses in Medicine, Engineering, Management, Law, English and various other disciplines. Academic freedom is one of the main characteristics of the German university system and is one of the reasons why public universities in Germany don't charge any fee.

Tuition fees:

Low tuition fees for University Education, but there is a fee for Learning German Language. German Language School's Fees are varying from 35000 INR to 60000 INR per Level.

Living Cost:

The approximate annual living expenses are about 800000 to 1000000 INR per year which includes accommodation as well as other daily expenses.

Intakes

  • The main intake offered by all Universities is September, Deadlines: from 15th Feb till 31st May.
  • Few universities offer in March, Deadlines: from 15th Nov till Jan Last.

Language Proficiency requirement

  • IELTS-5.5
  • German Language- Minimum A1-A2 certificate required (If student do B1 in India then he/she get more chance for getting admission)

Academic requirement

  • Minimum 50 % required for get admission in Studienkolleg
  • Minimum 70% required for get admission in Bachelor's program ( If student want to study in English)
  • Minimum 75% required for get admission in Master's program ( If student want to study in English

Standardized Tests

  • German Language Level Test: A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2(Goethe-Zertifikat)
  • A1-A2-B1-B2 at, Goethe institute approved faculty (total approximately cost 54000 INR)
  • A1-A2-B1-B2 at Germany (total approximately cost 200000 to 300000 INR)
  • International English language testing system (IELTS) is the world's most popular English language proficiency test for higher education.
  • IELTS at (British Council and IDP certified faculty)

Documents Required

  • Two Visa Application Forms
  • Three passport pictures according to biometric specifications
  • Visa fee to be paid through Demand Draft made out to the "Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany" in New Delhi
  • Valid passport with a validity of at least 12 months along with two copies of all printed pages
  • Cover letter from applicant, explaining the exact purpose and duration of your stay in Germany
  • Letter of admission from the German University
  • Proof that study fees have been paid, if applicable. In case the fees are not paid or due yet, proof has to be provided that the necessary amount will be at the applicant's disposal in due course of time
  • University Certificates (Degree Certificates and Mark Sheets)
  • Proof of Language Proficiency (TOEFL / IELTS, original and A 4 sized copy). Exemptions do apply in case of a written confirmation from the University that this requirement may be waived, for applicants for PhD / Doctorate studies and Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Holders.
  • Proof of financial means to cover the costs for the time of your studies by any of the following means:
  • Formal sponsorship letter from a sponsor living in Germany ("Verpflichtungserklarung" according to Article 68 German Residence Act)
  • Blocked account ("Sperrkonto") in Germany in the name of the applicant showing a minimum balance of Euro 7905, & the remark that the account holder can dispose of a monthly amount of Euro 659.
  • Confirmation of an annually renewable bank guarantee from a bank in Germany in the amount of Euro 7905
  • From the moment of entering the Federal Republic of Germany you are upon request required to provide proof of a valid Health Insurance. This may be done through a regular Travel Health Insurance bought in India.
