The Simplified Student Visa Framework explained (SSVF)

Australia's simplified student visa framework (SSVF) came into effect on July 1st 2016. The following changes were introduced :

International students will apply for a single Student visa (subclass 500), regardless of their chosen course of study.

The SSVF is designed to make the process of applying for a student visa simpler to navigate - and without paper!

All students and student guardians will generally be required to lodge their visa application online by creating an account in Immi Account.

Combined country and provider immigration risk model.

The combined immigration risk outcomes of the student's education provider and country of citizenship are used to guide the level of financial and English language capacity related documentation that the student needs to provide with their student visa application.

Major Difference between SVP & SSVF:

SVP: fund & IELTS only show to college / university (Offline Process: Submit Hard Copies of Documents to VFS)

SSVF: fund & IELTS show to college/university and embassy both (Online Process: Create immiaccount & apply for Visa)

1.What is GTE - Genuine Temporary Entrant?

The genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement is an integrity measure to ensure that the student visa programmed is used as intended and not as a way for international students to maintain ongoing residency in Australia.

The GTE requirement applies to all student visa applicants. The officer assessing the visa will and considers whether the individual circumstances of the student indicate that their intention is for a temporary stay in Australia.

3.What is Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)?

You must have adequate health insurance while in Australia. Students can show this by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance.

You can select an approved OSHC provider and pay for the policy yourself. Some education providers might offer to arrange OSHC for you.

If your education provider arranges your OSHC coverage, you will need to know the name of your health insurance provider, the date that your policy starts and finishes and should be aware of the terms and conditions of your policy. If you arrange OSHC coverage yourself you will also need to know the policy number to include in the visa application.

4.My Family member/ Spouse/ Dependent can join to me?

You and your family members can make a combined application or they can apply to join you later provided you declared them in your student visa application or they became a family member after the grant of your student visa (such as a newborn baby).

You must have funds to support yourself and all accompanying family members already in Australia as well as those included in the current application.

5.How many times old fund i required at the time of visa?

It should be 3 months old in your or your sponsored account.

6.During my study i can work in Australia?

Yes, you cannot work until you have commenced your course in Australia. Once your course has commenced you are permitted to work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight (2 week- 14 days) when your course is in session, and unlimited hours when your course is not in session.

7.My Family member/ Spouse/ Dependent Can Work in Australia?

Yes, must not start work until the primary visa holder has commenced their course in Australia?

Can work up to 40 hours per fortnight at all times unless the primary visa holder has commenced a course towards a masters or doctoral degree and holds a Student visa (subclass 500). In this case there is no limit on the number of hours a family member might work. If student study in master or PhD, his/her dependent can work full time in Australia.
